In the year 1931, the Colombo North Hunapitiya Boys' School was started on a government land adjacent to Padiliatuduwa Road in Hunupitiya. Hunupitiya Boys' School was started at Hunupitiya Boys' School for the boys of the Mixed School, now named as Kanitu Vidyalaya, which was earlier started near a Dalu Pitiya road.
